Contemporary Craftsman gets ready for Family Reunion

My C.C. client 'facebooked' me a few weeks ago to chat about ideas for updating her "Granny" flower arrangements and adding more contemporary accessories that reflect her personality in Dining Room, Living Room and Office.

We promptly removed the outdated silk flower arrangements and developed concepts for highlighting the fireplace... We have to be done in two weeks for visiting family, so stay tuned for final pics!

FLOR Tiles for every design style!

I have always admired, but never designed around, the brilliance of Frank Lloyd Wright. A client in Jester has a collection of artwork and wants to complete the look with sofa pillows and updated carpets. After researching the carpets, we realized with two kids, a big dog, and a Dad that likes to serve red wine at parties, a $3k+ FLW rug would not be ideal. FLOR tiles to the rescue! We found a great olive herringbone -

The best thing about FLOR tiles: "Installation is so easy that a kid can do it!"

More Fun with FLOR tiles

The Great Hills addition is in its last stages - designing a colorful, comfortable area for a family of four! The latest design elements are FLOR tiles in A La Mode Rocky Road Multi and Just a Slice in coordinating colors: Cream, Seafoam, Tan and Earthen. We varied the orientation for more interest! FLOR tiles are a great, cost-effective way to add color/design while being easy to clean for kids and pets.

Feng Shui in less than 1000 sq ft

A new home is a blank slate... especially this one with white walls and gorgeous original hardwood floors... my new client was particularly interested in having 'good feng shui', so in two & half hours, we made it happen... Follow her 'bagua' of photos/details...

Health Heart of Chi - Core of the Home:
Color: Yellow Element: Earth
We oriented the yellow most part of the area rug towards the center of the home and incorporated several pieces of framed artwork that had several highlights of yellow.

Helpful People - Synchronicity
Color: Grey Element: Metal

We did not have as much grey to add to the room, so we focused on metal elements - several metal buttons w/in the glass jar, the metal-like lamp, the collection of metal lunchboxes, the metal legs on the sofa and side table.

Creativity/Goals
Color: White Element: Metal

In the transition/hallway area, we highlighted a black/white photo in a metal frame under a white hall light, and in the bedroom next door, kept the doors/jams bright white w/ metal handles. A stack of white pillows intensifies the impact.

Knowledge/Self Improvement
Color: Blue Element: Earth

We will have to work on increasing the presence of Blue/Earth in this formal entrance area... so far we have the blue in the artwork over the sofa and several smaller blue items on an entrance table... and a foreboding stone gargoyle for extra protection from 'evil spirits'.... We also have a blue papershade lamp on the perimeter.

Fame/Reputation/Vision
Color: Red Element: Fire
The client has a portable fireplace that only made sense in this area.

Career/Mission
Color: Black Element: Water
The strongest design came in this area; the client already had several black/white photos of snow-covered cities. We also repositioned the leaning black bookcase in this area and highlighted several books and pieces of art that were mostly black.

We have more strengthening to accomplish in the Family/Community, Ablundance/Power, and Love/Partnership areas. The design choices we made are elementary Feng Shui and passed solely on the clients current accessories, no new purchases. CCB Designs offers basic services and recommends a local Feng Shui design firm for those clients desiring more precise design.

Tile and Carpet were in progress of being torn up... the Realtor called CCB Designs in to assist in selecting new, affordable tile and carpet to prep the home for market quickly...

Fireplace Transformation

I love a design challenge... in the Before photo, we have a dated, room-darkening stone wall - not aesthetically pleasing or functional, except for a narrow mantel...

BEFORE

The clients requested a brighter, more functional design. We took down the stone wall, reshaped the windows for more light to bounce off framing, added functional window seats and highlighted the fireplace with a 3" x 18" tile... Final touches are being made - stay posted for results!

Merry Mid-Century Modern!

This project has been the most fun and most dramatic makeover - all just with furnishings! The client loves mixing Mid-Century Modern with heirloom antiques and pumping up the color... we added mood-lighting globes from Lampsplus.com on a dimmer, fun artwork (fabric from Fanny's Fabrics) and a fabulous Bo Concept Indivi 2 low sofa in blue Sazza fabric! And now the holiday tree in all its sparkling glory!

Great Hills Remodel - Arts & Crafts Style Lighting

Reclaimed vs Glam Design

Same dining room - two totally different designs:

The first setting has a reclaimed Bengal Wood dining table with a centerpiece arrangement of naturally preserved mosses and branches in a stainless steel vase. Glass plates were used to appreciate the full affect of the beautiful wood grain. A local artist's lithograph is highlighted on the light brick wall.

The second setting has the CB2 Silverado Rectangular glass top table and steel base with six Ikea Gilbert dining chairs in Black. Bright blue frosted glass vases from Threshold and tealight holders from Cost Plus World Market pop against the neutral brick walls and light maple floors. The Midcentury Modern-inspired painting by Patricia on art.com adds life and vibrancy. Glass plates on multi-color Chilewich placemats keep the modern, clean aesthetic.

Outdoor Decor on 21st floor

The space may only be 4 feet wide and 19 feet long, but amazing design can still happen...

Room and Board Montego Outdoor Furniture: Super plush low sofa and matching chair, made from Stainless Steel and Ipe wood with white Outdoura fabric cushions, provide perfect seating for watching the action 21 stories below... and don't miss the FLOR Velvet Twist tiles in a cool color combo and nice on bare feet! And for evening lighting, we added the Design Within Reach Toto Cube Lamp in between the Montego sofa and chair.

Also on the patio is the Montego barstools and custom sized long bar table and Design Within Reach Medium Bullet Planter.

No space is too small for great design!

Great Hills Remodel & Addition - 6th week

Want to see an incredible team effort for home remodel? Check out the new 550 sq foot addition built by Matt Risinger, Risinger Homes, over top of my Great Hills clients' kitchen and garage! All this in 5 weeks! The 6th week brings us flooring installation, paint colors, and tiling on the updated fireplace.

Before: Third Bedroom/Library

In Progress: 550 sq ft vaulted Rec Room'Library

The clients had one living room, 21' x 15', for themselves and two young children (and all their toys!). While we came up with a re-design solution providing more storage space, the clients still wanted an "Adult" living room and a refuge for all things dolls, art, and Susie Bake Ovens... I called in my colleague from the Home Builders Association of Greater Austin Custom Builders Council, Matt Risinger of Risinger Homes www.risingerhomes.com. With the guidance of Matt and Eric Rauser, architect, the 550 sq foot addition was created!

In addition to the extra space, the middle bedroom was expanded 5 feet, and the downstairs living room received a face lift. See the transition of space through the photos and watch for more updates coming VERY soon!
